Assam Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi visits the Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project site at Lonku
Haflong, June 19, 2012 – Shri.Pradyut Bordoloi,Minister for Industries & Commerse,Power & Public Enterprises of Assam visited the site of Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project (3×50 MW) at Lonku, around 30km from Umrangso,Dima Hasao District of Assam on 16th June,2012 on a two-day visit to Longku and Umrongso to survey the site for the project as initiated by the Chief Minister Shri. Tarun Gogoi and conveyed the message of the Chief Minister to start the construction of dam for the proposed project.
Daring as his eager face, Minister Bordoloi was not stopped by the bad weather with continuous rainfall, but went to the site and inspected the proposed site at Lonku with his colleagues. He was also accompanied by the Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Shri. Debojeet Thaosen and his colleagues like Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Ems, MACs and many other dignitaries, officials as well as general public.
In this connection, a public meeting was held at Lonku, wherein, the Minister said the Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project will be started soon. Dam will be constructed for the benefit of all. The project when completed will generate 150 MW capacity and is to be been taken up to generate more power as a supplementary or complimentary to the present Kopili Hydro Electric Plant under NEEPCO which is not sufficient to supply power in the growing population. Thus, still many people are still deprived of power supply. He also spoke on the various initiatives that will be taken up by the Govt regarding the construction and mentioned that several discussions had been held with the CEM Debojeet regarding the project.
A memorandum was submitted by KSA, SKA and KNCA and by the Garampani Congress Committee. Mentions were made with regard to compensate the affected areas with the construction that will be soon carried out by the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. It may be noted here that the area within 5 kms radius from the Power Station will receive facilities of power supply. Apart from the project, demands for development in other fields like road,schools,medical will also be looked into and around 100 unemployed youths of the area will be sent for free training in the national level by the Assam Govt.The Minister was also accompanied by the DHAC Chairman Shri. Kur Rongpi,Deputy Chairman Shri. Madhu Joishi, Executive Members, MAC’s, Officials, APGC Ltd Officials and by many other dignitaries.
