Haflong, November 12, 2019 : In protest against the apathy of concerned authorities over non-completion of Haflong main road from Post office to Lower Haflong,to black list the contractors and demanding regular maintenance of roads, the Dimasa Students’ Union, on November 5, blocked Haflong main road from Sombudhan Phonglo statue to Synod rotary for three hours, starting from 10 AM and concluded at 1 PM.
Speaking to this reporter, the DDU general secretary Pramith Sengyung said that this core issues are for all the citizens of Haflong and the entire district of Dima Hasao, as such, all must raise voice against such apathy by the concerned authority.
The project for the road had started last year but the work is not completed even after six month extension, which left the entire area polluted resulting to sever health related problems for the students of nearby schools as well as community of Haflong.
He said that the construction of road is not up to the mark and demanded to black list the contractors engaged in the said work and urged the PWD Haflong road Division for regular repair and maintenance of road.
The road condition is in deplorable state due to apathy of the concerned authority and due to poor road communication tourism and economy is badly affected, Sengyung stated, adding that such state of road condition is not only confined to Haflong but can be seen in other parts of the district like Dehangi-Umragso and Gram Pani – Lanka roads are example.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Minter of Public works,etc Hemanta Biswa Sharma for taking obligatory action in the interests of the people Dima Hasao district
