Assam records First COVID-19 casualty, 65-year-old man died in SMCH

April 10, 2020 : Faijul Haque Barbhuyan,65-year old COVID-19 positive patient from Hailakandi district died last night at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
Informing the people, Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweet, “with utmost grief and sorrow, I would like to inform that Sri Faijul Haque Barbhuyan,(65) from Hailakandi district has expired few minutes back in SMCH due to complication of COVID-19. Deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family.”
Sources said that the patient had viral pneumonial infection in lungs resulting to respiratory complications. As such, he was admitted in SMCH on April 7. However, his condition was deteriorating since afternoon of April 9 and breathed his last at midnight.
According to report, this is the first coronavirus casualty in Assam and the deceased was the 28th COVID-19 positive case in Assam and third from Barak Valley. He had a travel history of visiting Saudia Arabia and also the Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi.(AT/GP)
