Haflong, February 3, 2020: The inaugural programme of Four Days training on Emergency Management Exercise (EMEx) was held today atDistrict Library Auditorium, Haflong, which is organized by District Disaster Management Authority, Dima Hasao in association with Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
The inaugural programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa, Superintendent of Police Vir Vikram Gogoi, Principal Secretary (N) Mukut Kemprai and observers from Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority. Besides, resource persons from UNICEF, ASDMA-Guwahati, NDRF, AID Foundation and officers and staff from line departments also attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Amitabh Rajkhowa requested all line departments to participate, saying, “ The four days exercise is designed to harness the strengths and capabilities of the emergency responders, educational institutions, hospitals, humanitarian agencies, etc as they prepare to meet the catastrophes of this district” .
The newly posted Dima Hasao SP, Vir Vikram Gogoi spoke on the importance of such exercise as during such calamities it becomes very difficult to act responsible if unprepared, therefore it is important that all agencies involved be trained so that there is necessary coordination and support during such crisis.
Dr. Kripal Majumder from ASDMA briefed about the activities and the mission behind such event. He informed that such events have successfully been conducted in other districts also and there have been active participation.
Earlier, Asstt. Deputy Commissioner Dipak Jidung , in his welcome speech, welcome guests, dignitaries and all present. He also explained how DDMA prepares and mitigates measures of various disasters like earthquake, landslide, flashflood etc in the district.
It is to be noted that along with this four days programme of EMEx, there will be trainings held simultaneously at 5 different venues like Govt Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Gadain Raji Mahila Samity Community Hall, Circuit House, DC office, Cultural Institute Hall with resource persons from Assam State Disaster Management Authority, UNICEF, AID Foundation Ghy, NDRF Ghy, and observers from Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority.Apart from training there will be table top exercise at Library auditorium on 5th i.e Wednesday where a good crowd is expected in order to spread as much awareness as possible. On 6th there will be a mock drill, at the Jatinga as the incident site where there will be involvement of all the line departments.
