Gymnast Upasha Talukdar becomes First Assamese to Bag Medal in Khelo India

January 11, 2020 : In a first for Assam, Upasha Talukdar succeeded in winning bronze in gymnastics. She is the first to win a medal for the state in the third edition of Khelo India Youth Games. Today is the second day of the games which started from 9 January. 

In a first for Assam, Upasha Talukdar succeeded in winning bronze in gymnastics. She is the first to win a medal for the state in the third edition of Khelo India Youth Games. Today is the second day of the games which started from 9 January. 

It may be mentioned that the official opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games is to start at 6:00 pm on January 10.

The event will be inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
 
More than 500 artists will be performing honouring the Assamese tradition. 

Preparations for the mega event have been going on since more than a month. There are more than 400 cast members, around 400 technical support staffs and around 100 core team members working on ground for the opening ceremony. Performances by ethnic communities from across Assam, is also part of the grand show.

An act to champion the Fit India movement, encouraging all Indians to integrate fitness into their daily routine, is also an important aspect of the show.

It should be mentioned that Khelo India Youth Games will be using electric cars for the inter-venue transfers or dignitaries.
