Dima Hasao Medical department and myself requests all honourable Maujadars, GBs, all community and student/ youth leaders, NGOs, local leaders, political parties etct co-operate and help the medical teams to “enter” the villages/ town localities and carrying out the screening process.”

Earlier, the Medical department, through local newspaper ‘Haflong News’ dated May 8, 2020 issued, has already informed the starting of surveillance. It stated that in order to contain the possible spread of COVID-19, the community based surveillance for Sever Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) and Influenza Like Illness (ILI), has started in Dima Hasao district village wise by the community surveillance team as per the micro plan prepared by the medical department.

This was initiated as per the decision of the Assam government under ACSP (Assam Community Surveillance Plan), stated DIPRO today in a press release.

As per the strategy, the ASHAs with the help of Aganwadi workers and goanburas will collect pre- hand information about the cases of ILI and SARI in the village level which will be next attended by the community surveillance team headed by the medical officer to counsel the patient as well as the family and community.

The surveillance team will further advise home quarantine to the suspected person and his family members till the results of the samples are declared.

The objective of the ACSP has been defined as to identify any COVID-19 transmission, find unreported cases of SARI and ILI from every village, look for any clustering of such cases in a specific locality,  treat symptomatic minor flu cases at homes and create a database of such persons including the migrant population coming into the state in the days to come. This will also ensure all SARI or ILI cases are tested for other diseases associated with fever like Japanese encephalitis, malaria, dengue, measles and rubella etc. This will ensure that all SARI and ILI cases are tested for COVID-19, followed by mapping and linking the places and accordingly plan for adequate beds and ICU facilities.

Community Surveillance Teams and five numbers of Block Level Monitoring Teams have been constituted which will be monitored by the District Monitoring Team for monitoring the activities within the district of Dima Hasao.
